Christmas amid hardships

Oakland, Calif. (AP) - The uncle of a 13-year-old Northern California girl who was declared brain dead after suffering complications following a tonsillectomy says the family is trying to give the girl as normal of a Christmas as possible.

He says the family will wait until tomorrow to discuss whether to appeal a judge's decision allowing Children's Hospital Oakland to remove his niece Jahi (juh-HY') McMath from life support.

The judge issued the ruling yesterday but gave the family six days to file an appeal. The family has said they believe the girl is still alive.
