911 dispatcher helps with a special delivery

Geneseo, N.Y.- A  911 dispatcher in Livingston County helped with the delivery of a baby in Wyoming County.

On Tuesday morning, Dispatcher Matthew Snyder fielded a cellular 911 call from a woman reporting that her 18 year old daughter was delivering a baby in a vehicle on Route 98 near the intersection of Dolph Road in the town of Gainsville. Less than a minute into the call, the baby was born.

Police said Snyder remained in constant contact with the caller, providing emergency medical instructions until first responders could be dispatched to the scene.

Both mom and baby are doing fine.

Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty said all 911 dispatchers undergo emergency medical dispatch training for just such events.
