Family says girl shot will be okay

Rochester, N.Y.The 13-year-old girl who was shot on Hollister Street is expected to be fine, according to her family.

Naomi Liddell was on the porch when bullets flew in her direction, two of which hit her, said Kieron Jones, her brother.

Police originally told 13WHAM News that the girl was playing on an enclosed porch when she was struck, but family members believe she was leaving the house on the way to visit a nearby friend.

Tuesday morning, 20-year-old Joshua Sutton was arraigned on charges including third-degree assault and Endangerment in the first degree.

Investigators believe that Sutton, who was with several other men in a silver minivan fired three shots from a .380 handgun at a group walking down the street, one stray bullet hit the girl, according to court documents.

A fragment did embed in her chest and caused possible organ damage, wrote an investigator in the Felony Complaint against Sutton.

Jones said another bullet grazed her shoulder.

The second bullet that hit her almost hit her heart, said Jones.

In a statement to police, Sutton said another person was responsible for the shooting and that he was unaware this would take place.

The investigation is still ongoing, said Michael Ciminelli, Interim Chief of Police.
