Man shows gun, shoots self, friend at lunch

Mendon, N.Y. - A Fairport man who accidentally discharged his firearm in a Mendon restaurant
last week has been charged.

John Cassata, 70, was charged Tuesday with felony reckless endangerment and assault.

The charges stem from an incident Saturday at the Cottage Hotel around 1 p.m. when Cassata
showed his firearm to a friend at the table where they sat.

The gun accidentally fired a bullet, which went through Cassatas hand and leg, then grazed
the ankle of his friend, Charles Raab, 67.

No one else was injured.
