Safety checks ordered for hundreds of planes

Washington (CNN) -- The Federal Aviation Administration is preparing to order more safety checks on hundreds of planes.

The directive will affect more than 400 Boeing 767 jets. The problem is a potential danger in the movable tail sections of the planes, which can jam and potentially cause pilots to lose control of the aircraft.

The safety order goes into effect March 3. The FAA said airlines have six years to address the problem. Its unlikely the directive will cause any flight cancellations.
