Steuben Co. man charged with stealing guns

Springwater, N.Y. - Livingston County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man after they say he broke into a home, stole weapons and sold them.

Deputies said Matthew A. Bartlett, 45, of Wayland, broke into a home on Kellogg Road Christmas Day while the homeowners were out.

Bartlett is accused of stealing six long guns and selling two of them in the area. Deputies did recover several of the stolen guns but not all.

Bartlett has been charged with burglary, grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal sale of a weapon and possession of stolen property.

The Sheriff's Office has investigated several burglaries in Springwater and Livonia involving stolen guns. Citizens are reminded to safeguard their property, lock doors, use a gun safe, and to report any suspicious activity in your community.
