Neighbors meet in wake of brutal violence in Rochester

Rochester, N.Y. - Neighbors in the 19th Ward, where a triple homicide occurred at the beginning of the week, are meeting Wednesday night to talk about public safety.

This meeting was planned before this, but that's what people want to talk about and get answers to.

People who live and work in the 19th Ward said the latest violence is disturbing and frightening.

"Word out on the street is it was intended to send a message," said Joanna Smith, a Rochester resident. "It's really sad and it's hurting a lot of families."

The president of the 19th Ward Neighborhood Association, LaShay Harris, said she's gotten calls from many residents and business owners.

They are concerned and want more information about what happened to the three murder victims on Chili Avenue, but Harris said they have to let police investigate and wait for answers.

She is urging residents to get involved and attend Wednesday's meeting. Police are expected to be there.

"People are very concerned about the violence and the type of violence that involved two young mothers in a home in the comfort of a home," said Harris.

The meeting is at 6:30 at the Rochester Presbyterian Home on Thurston Road.

Police usually attend this monthly meeting, but 13WHAM does not know if they will be able to provide any new information to residents about this crime.
