Governor Cuomo promises more support for Rochester
Rochester, N.Y. - During a visit to Rochester Thursday, Governor Andrew Cuomo brought money to help build a new business and the promise of more support from the state.
Cuomo said upstate cities like Rochester were shortchanged under previous administrations in Albany. He said he will do his best to right that wrong.
Cuomo pledged three million dollars towards the construction of a new Biosciences Manufacturing Center in the Eastman Business Park. That plant will use fermentation equipment to convert feed into sugars, which are used to make biofuels and biochemicals.
The company will initially employ 50 people, but that number will grow as other businesses use the facility to test and manufacture their own products.
Mike Alt, Director of the Eastman Business Park, said the commitment of three million dollars from the state helps seal the deal to build the facility. It happened after lobbying by the Finger Lakes Economic Development Council.
Council member Danny Wegman said this was a complicated project, but the Governor believed in it and supported it.
Businesses like this will help boost our economy and could help bring jobs and people back to New York State, Wegman said.
