Last surviving von Trapp family member dies

Stowe, Vt. -- The last surviving member of the family that was the inspiration of the classic film The Sound of Music died.

The Uk's Daily Mail reports that Maria Franziska, a member of the real von Trapp family, passed away at her Vermont home. She was 99 years old.

Franziska was one of seven brothers and sisters who fled their home in Austria in 1938 when the Nazis occupied the country.

The family performed throughout America, eventually inspiring the 1965 film which went on to win almost half a dozen Oscars.

Franziska was the second-eldest daughter of Baron von Trapp.
