Newark playground looted for metal

Newark, N.Y. - All thats left is a pile of plastic and a few metal rods.

At some point during the past two month, a thief or thieves ripped metal supports from playground equipment at Candy Apple Childcare Center in Newark. The center was unaware of the damage until recently because there was so much snow piled up on the equipment.

Its kind of a kick in the gut, said Anthony Fisher, President of the Board of Directors at Candy Apple Childcare Center.

Newark police are investigating the matter and believe the metal was taken to be sold at a local scrapyard. It is expected to cost $25,000 to replace the playground, though the center does not have money to do that, said Fisher.

Its going to be a lot of running around maybe some kickball, Fisher said.
