Former anchor to run for political office
Perinton, N.Y. - Former Rochester news and sports anchor Rich Funke announced a run for political office Wednesday.
During a news conference Wednesday, Funke said he will run for the New York State Senate 55th District seat as a Republican.
The district covers most of eastern Monroe County and western portions of Ontario County. Democrat Ted OBrien currently holds the seat.
Monroe County Minority Leader Carrie Andrews released the following statement regarding Richard Funkes Senate Campaign:
Richard Funke is the handpicked candidate of New York's right-wing establishment and would be another vote in the Senate against the Women's Equality Act and protecting a woman's right to choose. If women are to be treated as truly equal citizens under New York law, we must stand against those like Richard Funke who would enable the extremist, anti-woman policies of the Conservative Party and its allies in the Senate.
