Ontario Co. to vote on bus service switch
Canandaigua, N.Y. -- Ontario County leaders are scheduled to vote Thursday night whether to let the agency that runs Rochesters public bus system take over its own bus system.
The countys board of supervisors will decide whether to end its contract with the County Area Transit System (CATS) or switch to the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA), which runs services in Monroe and six other Western New York counties.
Leaders said the move would save hundreds of thousands of dollars each month and would raise the countys mortgage tax rate from .75 percent to 1 percent.
Thursdays board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Ontario County Courthouse in Canandaigua.
The switch could happen as soon as July if approved.
