Brockport murder trial continues Monday

Rochester, N.Y. -- The trial of the man accused of murdering his girlfriend in her College at Brockport dorm room in 2012 will resume Monday morning.

Clayton Whittemore, 22, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Alexandra Kogut, then 18, the night of Sept. 29, 2012.

Prosecutors allege Whittemore beat Kogut, barely a month into her freshman year at Brockport, to death with his fists, a clothing iron and a mug.

Whittemores attorneys have argued he should be tried for manslaughter rather than murder because of his mental state during the attack. They said he was subject to years of abuse from his father and snapped the night of Koguts death.
