Arrests made after fights at Ontario Beach Park

Rochester, N.Y. --  Police made eight arrests and broke up several fights at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte Monday evening.

Rochester police charged Amari Hickenbottom, 16,  Adam Johnson, 16 and Brandon Spears, 17 with Disorderly Conduct. Two juvenile offenders were also arrested by RPD.  Monroe County Sherriff's Deputies arrested Tracey Adam, 19 and Travon Peters, 20. They are also charged with Disorderly Conduct.  Alex Frens, 16, is charged with resisting arrest and Disorderly Conduct.

Several fights broke out around 6:30 p.m. which led to the park and some nearby roads being temporarily shut down for public safety concerns.

Additional police were brought in to move cars and people out of the area. No injuries were reported.

The park reopened over an hour later.

Many families just trying to enjoy a day at the beach were frustrated by the chaos.

"I was trying to have a picnic with my family," said Andreana Cunningham. "All of a sudden, a cop, a bunch of people running and screaming, I think fireworks, cops coming out of nowhere, people getting maced, people losing their kids, us having to pack up out picnic and leave because people don't know how to act anymore."

A police spokesperson said officers were assigned to monitor the beach due to the holiday.

A similar incident in 2011 also forced police to temporarily shut down the beach.

Increased patrols have been on duty in that area, especially on busy weekends like Memorial Day.
