Henrietta woman hit by car at Lilac Festival

Rochester, N.Y. -- A Greece man was arrested at the Lilac Festival after police said he hit a 94-year-old woman Saturday.

Police said David Dispirito, 51, was driving erratically in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial entrance to the festival on South Avenue around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Dispirito slammed into parked cars and police officers, along with festival security, yelled at the suspect and tried to get him to cut the engine.

Officers even smashed a window and tried to grab his steering wheel.

Dispirito attempted to drive away, striking Helen Uffelman from Henrietta, who was walking to her car with family members. Dispirito wouldn't stop trying to move the vehicle, until officers tased him.

He was taken into custody while the victim suffered a broken shin and severe toe injury. Uffelman's family said she has significant rehab ahead of her.

Several cars were also damaged. Dispirito faces a slew of charges, including DWI and resisting arrest.
