NYPD catches man who slipped handcuffs

New York (AP) -- Police in New York City said they've located a man who slipped out of his handcuffs and escaped custody at a hospital.

George Jordan was apprehended Saturday inside a Far Rockaway home, a day after he went on the lam.

Jordan, 36, was originally arrested Friday on charges of petit larceny and resisting arrest after police said he was observed shoplifting bars of soap and other items from a Queens pharmacy.

Police said officers took Queens man from a stationhouse to St. John's Episcopal Hospital when he complained of shortness of breath a few hours after his arrest.

That's where they said he slipped out of his handcuffs and fled. Jordan now faces an additional charge for escaping custody.
