Bills DL Dareus arrested on drug charges

Heflin, Ala. -- Police in eastern Alabama have arrested Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl defensive lineman Marcell Dareus on drug charges.

13WHAM News confirmed Dareus, 24, was arrested Monday night by a state trooper in Cleburne County and released from the jail within an hour. Police said he was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Dareus was selected third overall in the 2011 draft out of Alabama and is entering his fourth season with the Bills. He had 7.5 sacks and 71 tackles last season.

Dareus was benched in the final two games of the 2013 season for violating team rules, believed to be missing team meetings. At the end of the season, he vowed to become more responsible for his actions.

The team recently picked up the fifth-year option on the contract Dareus signed as a rookie in 2010.
