Rochester kids off to the races

Rochester, N.Y. -- Some local kids were off to the races Saturday, but not in racecars; rather, soap box cars!

Young speedsters gathered in the shadows of Lake Ontario, getting behind the wheel at the annual Soap Box Derby at Durand Eastman Park.

New this year was a program that allows several Rochester city schools and their kids to get involved.

Onlookers got an extra treat Saturday, getting the chance to see Mayor Lovely Warren race City Councilman Adam McFadden.

"I don't know how I got in the race, but I got my butt kicked," said McFadden.

"We had fun," Warren said. "We wanted to enjoy the program with the kids. Unfortunately, Mr. McFadden here lost,"

The winner in Saturday's race got a $5,000 scholarship to the Rochester Institute of Technology along with a chance to compete in the world championships.
