Harrowing testimony in trial of Ralph Strong Jr.

Rochester, N.Y. - Testimony began in the trial of Ralph Strong Junior, who is accused of killing two men and shooting a police officer while trying to avoid arrest three days later.

A passing motorist was also caught in the crossfire that day. He offered harrowing testimony in court Wednesday.

Gene McDougal took a bullet to the abdomen and spent a week in the hospital, but he recalls every moment of what happened a year ago this week.

McDougal was driving on North Goodman when he noticed a car quickly pulling up behind him. He slowed to let it pass, but instead watched as the driver drove onto some lawns.

"I saw a guy jump out of the driver's side door and started running," said McDougal. "I felt a hard slap to my abdomen. I saw a hole in the car door and knew I had been shot. I was in excruciating pain."

As he tried to back away from the scene, McDougal witnessed Sergeant Flemur Zenelovic tuck-and-roll, coming up on one knee. McDougal said he could tell the officer was hit by the amount of blood that he saw.

Officer Lewis, also on scene, described the harrowing ride to the hospital. He sat in the back seat hanging on to the injured officer with one hand, on to the seat with the other; they took off so quickly the door was open the whole way.
