Police officer arrested for assault, drugs

Canandaigua, N.Y. -- A Canandaigua police officer was charged with assault following a domestic dispute at his home Saturday evening.

Ontario County District Attorney Mike Tantillo said Officer Wayne D. Fenton, 45, was charged with third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and is facing drug charges.

Tantillo said the victim called 911 Saturday night, but Fenton had already left the scene. He turned himself into the Ontario County Sheriff's Office Sunday morning and was released on bail an hour later.

Fenton and his wife, Rebecca Laware, 43, are facing additional charges for unlawfully growing marijuana. Those charges will be filed this week.
