Damage estimates still growing in Penn Yan

Penn Yan, N.Y. - Penn Yan Mayor Leigh MacKerchar said damage estimates from the storms are at $2.5 million and still growing.

This comes after Congressman Tom Reed announced Thursday that the area reached $26 million in damage.

MacKerchar spoke with Governor Cuomo's office today. The next step in the recovery process is for the Governor to make a formal request to the White House for federal aid.

She told 13WHAM News that as far as he knows,  FEMA will cover 75% of damages, state and local will split the rest (12.5% each).

The most recent figures she saw had damage to homes and businesses in Yates County estimated at about $10 million,  that's also a number that continues to climb.
