Merger between healthcare providers approved

Rochester, N.Y. - A merger between two of the Rochester areas major healthcare providers is set to go into effect next week.

The merger between Rochester General Health and Unity Health Systems was unanimously approved Wednesday night.

The new system will include affiliations with Clifton Springs Hospital, UMMC in Batavia and Newark Wayne Community Hospital.

It will become the regions second-largest employer behind the University of Rochester.
The merger is expected to take effect next Tuesday.
