Mayor wants club shut down

Rochester, N.Y. - Mayor Lovely Warren said the city won't tolerate violence at any establishment in Rochester and that recent shootings and stabbings at or around Captain's Attic on Charlotte Street pose a danger to the public.

Mayor Warren said the club has been issued 20 or more points or violations for serious problems.

That's enough for the city to take legal action to shut it down.

Warren said city attorneys will file legal papers in court Tuesday, then it would be up to a judge to decide if the bar should be shut down.

Mayor Warren said she will also ask owners of Magic City, where there has also been recent violence in and around the club, to voluntarily close.

Warren said that on Thursday she and the Rochester police chief will meet with owners of Magic City to ask them to temporarily close.

Magic City owner Bob Monteneri was shocked when 13 WHAM told him the mayor wanted him to close down. He said he is being targeted for having a diverse clientele.

Business owners in the East End called a special meeting Monday to talk about the recent violence. They said it is hurting their businesses and keeping customers away from the popular East End.

Mayor Warren said she is sending a message to business owners and patrons. If there is trouble, you will be held accountable and you will lose the places to go out and have fun.
