Waterloo judge arrested

Waterloo, NY - A Waterloo judge is on the other side of the law, facing charges for allegedly filing a false police report.

Village Justice Roger Barto was indicted on numerous charges including corrupting government,  grand larceny, insurance fraud and falsely reporting an incident.

Barto claimed he was attacked outside of court on August 31.

Barto told police someone tried to strangle him before hitting him over the head and neck with a toilet tank cover.

Barto was on a ventilator following the alleged attack.

Prosecutors say Barto made it up to collect insurance benefits.

Barto is also accused of stealing gasoline from the Village of Waterloo in April.

Barto pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released.

He will be back in court in August.
