Woman accused of leaving child in car
Victor, N.Y. - A Rochester woman is facing charges after she allegedly left her four-year-old son alone in a car while she was at work.
Ontario County Sheriff's deputies said that Thelma Louise Edwards, 22, also has a suspended driver's license.
Deputies said that she left her son in the car for nearly two hours at the TGI Fridays in Victor before he was noticed by a passerby.
Edwards works at the restaurant as a hostess.
Investigators said the boy had no water and only the driver's side window was cracked open.
She has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle in the 2nd degree.
Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero said, "We urge people in any situation, don't leave a young child unattended for any length of time. Besides the heat stroke, there's the potential of someone unknown abducting or harming the child."
Sheriff Povero said the boy is doing well and is in the custody of Child Protective Services.
Edwards is being held at the Ontario County Jail on a $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond. She will appear at the Victor Town Court at a later date.
A spokesperson with TGI Fridays said, "We are deeply shocked and saddened by this news and in no way do we tolerate this kind of negligent behavior. We are partnering closely with the local authorities on this investigation."
