Man killed in Sunday crashed ID’d as Brockport Student

Brockport, N.Y. - Genesee County investigators are looking for a driver who may have come upon a fatal crash in Bergen, Wyoming County early Sunday morning.  The young man killed in the crash has been identified as 22 year old Carmelo Rivera.

He leaves behind a large extended family in the Village of Holley.  They are devastated and are still at a loss for details of what led to his final moments.

Police say Rivera was traveling southbound on Route 19 in Bergen around 2:30 am when his car collided with a pea harvester traveling in the opposite direction.  The force of the impact left his sedan in pieces.

Rivera recently transferred to SUNY Brockport for RIT.  He was a health science major and a fitness buff.

SUNY Brockport is in summer session.  A letter to students on the campus website offers thoughts and prayers to family and friends and counselors for students who need someone to talk to.

Investigators with the Orleans County Sheriff Department say another car may have been traveling through the area of the crash - a driver or passengers able to provide valuable information to their investigation.

Police ask anyone with information to call 345-3000 or 911.
