Deputies searching for suspect in Farmington shooting

by Kelsie Smith

Farmington, N.Y. - Investigators are still looking for who shot a Farmington man outside his home Wednesday around 6:30 p.m.

The man, 23-year-old Luiz Garcia Cruz, was shot multiple times in the street.

"This is a surprise for me because this area, Hunt's Park Homes, is very quiet," said Maria Hirldo who lives across the street from Cruz on Terri Drive in Farmington. "I am Puerto Rican, the boys is Puerto Rican and is good persons, so I don't know what happened."

Cruz was taken by friends to the nearby Urgent Care; he was then transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is in guarded condition.

Cruz works as a horse groomer at Finger Lakes Gaming and Race Track.

According to investigators, the shooting was not random - they believe Cruz had an altercation with the suspect earlier in the day.

"We do not believe that people who live in Hunt's Mobile Home Park should be concerned that the shooter is going to return to the area," said Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero.

Investigators are now looking for a dark blue SUV, possibly a Chevy trail blazer, and a white sedan.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Ontario County Sheriff's Office at 585-394-4560.
