Woman arrested on animal cruelty charges

Manchester, N.Y. A Shortsville woman was arrested after animal control officials seized several cats from a trailer in Manchester, according to the Ontario County Humane Society.

Tracy Wijayapala, 38, is facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and other possible charges.

Animal cruelty investigators found 5 cats that had died in the trailer and seized 12 live cats from the trailer at Lehigh Valley Estates on Route 96 in Manchester after neighbors complained about the cats.

Conditions of the home were called deplorable by the Ontario County Humane Society, who had to wear Tyvek suits in order to enter the trailer. The floors were not only covered with garbage, but also with cat urine and feces.

Wijayapala will appear in Manchester Town Court at a later date.
