Sheriff's deputy involved in accident

Lockport, N.Y. A Niagara County Sheriffs deputy was involved in a car accident in a patrol car around 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of North Transit and Main streets in Lockport, according to the Niagara County Sheriffs office.

The deputy was heading south on North Transit Street with lights and sirens on heading to a call when a car driven by William Higgs, 74, of Jupiter, Florida did not stop for the patrol car, according to police.

Higgs went around a car that was stopped in front of him and went into the intersection, where he hit the deputys patrol car, police said.

The deputy was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital for minor injuries. Higgs was ticketed for failure to yield for an emergency vehicle. He was not injured in the crash, police said.
