UPDATE: Two arrested in Amish kidnapping

Canton, N.Y. - New information has been released surrounding the arrests of two individuals accused of kidnapping Amish sisters earlier this week.

39-year-old Stephen Howells II and 25-year-old Nicole Vaisey have been charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping. They are being held in jail without bond.

Howells and Vaisey are accused of kidnapping two sisters, ages 12 and seven, Wednesday night in Oswegatchie. They were found close to 24 hours later, about 15 miles from where they disappeared.

Investigators said that both suspects have lived in the area for some time. Howells is a registered nurse, while Vaisley is a pet groomer.

Investigators said that the couple kidnapped the children to "victimize" them - no specific details were released as to what happened to the children, other than that both were said to be, "victims of crimes."

More charges could be filed, including possible federal charges.

Sheriff's deputies said that they believe the couple could have targeted other children, and that they are investigating as to whether there are any other victims.

As for the two Amish children, deputies said they were taken out of opportunity.

A preliminary hearing for Howells and Vaisey is scheduled for Thursday. They are currently being held in jail without bond.
