Recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer in late June, and treatments beginning in July, I felt helpless to not be able to help my Mom. My Mother is a strong woman, she has overcome a lot in her life this far, and Cancer is just another thing she is going to over come. This diagnosis falls in a year and a half after we lost my Father a wonderful Pharmacist, who we trust. Even through their divorce he was always a friend and confidant, especially in matters of health and family. To advocate for my Mom I enlisted a group to walk with us: for those families who have been touched with Breast Cancer in some way shape or form. I then had the task of recruiting walkers and donations, and have been trying since I decided THIS was my way to be an advocate for my Mom fro August and for the rest of my life. I chose to name our team: "Pink Phoenix Rising *Fight Like a Girl" like a phoenix rising out of the ashes, so does a woman with Breast Cancer, and so would my Mom. Like the "Phoenix Rising" out of the ashes and is reborn, a chance for a second life, a new life, discovery. The "Fight Like a Girl" because women are strong and battle this disease and it is one of the many slogans for those fighting breast cancer. I want my Mom to know, and be reminded she was given another chance, a chance to live life to the fullest, not allow cancer to take her life away while she is fighting. I know she is a strong lady, and as I said has overcome so many obstacles in her path.... she is one of the strongest women I know, and I love and respect her as a Mother, & my friend, someone who is following her 12 steps and has a faith is GOD that rivals many. She is my Pink Phoenix Rising, and Fighting like a Girl!

I am trying to upload a few photo's of the event. The first being a group shot of "Pink Phoenix Rising Fight Like a Girl" team, the 2nd of myself, my Mom and stepDad and lastly a photo of a friend and other friend's daughter with the Swans. If I can't upload them together I will send separately.
(In the first email I was able to send the group photo, in this second it wouldn't allow any other photos than the one) this photo is just of my Mom (Sherry Appleton-Miller) and stepfather Alexander (Sandy) Miller.
