Sandy you have devastated our back yard. At 11:59 last night we had three beautiful willow trees that each stood 50 feet high and each spread over 45 feet in diameter. We planted them as twigs twenty years ago on our 11th wedding anniversary. They became a member of the family, growing with our children and serving us so well as they soaked up the water runoff from adjacent properties. The ice storms would break their branches but they grew right back, the next season. At 12:00 last night sandy arrived with strong winds and in just a few moments wiped out 20 years of memories. The shady privacy, flood control and memories have been taken in an instant. Sure they are only trees, but to us they were much more. Now we are left with debris field that completely fills our yard and spans across two other properties. As these gentle giants gave way to the strong winds then crushed our neighbors fence before coming to rest across the yards. I am sad to see these magnificent trees go and know that even though we may plant new and wait another twenty years to see this again, we will never get back what we have lost to sandy.
