I shot these photos of a funnel cloud viewed from Ridge Rd Rt.104 just east of Elmgrove Rd facing ~NNW on 9-29-2012 at ~9:05 am. It appears to be over Lake Ontario. I first saw it as a finger coming down from a nasty looking cloud. It increased in length until it appeared to be all the way down to the horizon that I could see from Ridge Rd. It also had a bit of an S-curve to it. Although it was there in full length for a couple of minutes, I was not able to shoot these photo until I could pull in the Elmridge Plaza parking lot. By then the length of the cone was shortening until it was just a finger again.
The funnel cloud is over the arched store entrance in the center of the image.
A friend that came from the mid-west was always looking at clouds like those with suspicion since he has experienced tornados when he lived there. Not sure if anyone else reported it, but we don't think of those kind of funnel clouds around Rochester. Overall the sky looked very powerful this morning as I crossed town.
Wish I had a real camera instead of just my phone.
